Practical tools to help sustain and strengthen your marae.
Helping the people carrying the responsibility of sustaining our marae.
Kura Kāinga shares practical tools, guidance, and real-world experience to support marae leadership, operations, and future planning.
“It’s a comfortable space to ask some uncomfortable pātai.”
A Practical And Grounded Learning Experience

Whether you are involved in governance, operations, kaupapa delivery, maintenance, succession planning, or supporting behind the scenes, this wānanga creates space to reflect, learn, share experiences, and strengthen your approach moving forward.
You do not need to hold a formal leadership role to participate.

Why Kura Kāinga Matters
Marae continue to carry enormous responsibility as places of identity, connection, leadership, culture, and community wellbeing.
Kura Kāinga helps participants move beyond simply maintaining operations by exploring how marae can continue to thrive, adapt, and remain strong for future generations.
This is not about perfection.
It is about responsibility, succession, connection, and strengthening our marae for those who come after us.
“Do it for your whānau, your marae, your hapū.”
“100% worth it.”
“Kura Kāinga is a grounded, kaupapa Māori learning space where knowledge is shared in a real, meaningful way.”
Learn From Real Experience
Facilitated by Dr Jeremy Tātere MacLeod, Kura Kāinga draws on governance experience, practical marae leadership, kaupapa Māori development, and real-world examples to support practical and meaningful learning.
Participants will explore:
marae governance and leadership

succession and sustainability planning
funding and operational realities
practical decision-making approaches
