Kura Ako
Understanding Dialects in te reo Māori
Te reo Māori carries the unique voices of our iwi and hapū. Kura Ako helps you explore how those voices differ, evolve, and connect to identity.
What is Kura Ako?
Kura Ako is a one-day, hands-on workshop where Dr. Jeremy Tātere MacLeod shares insights from his doctoral research and personal journey studying Māori dialects.
While his research is based in Ngāti Kahungunu, this workshop supports participants from all iwi, hapū, and communities to understand, identify, and preserve dialectal variations within their own language environments.
It offers practical tools, research methods, and cultural understanding to help you study dialect, recognise regional features, and appreciate how language evolves as an expression of whakapapa and identity.
