About Kauwaka®

Kauwaka® was established in 2020 as a vehicle to contribute to the language and cultural revitalisation efforts within Ngāti Kahungunu. We experienced exponential growth and now deliver services across Aotearoa and the world.

Our Programmes

At Kauwaka®, all our workshops are designed to help you make real-world connections with te ao Māori through language and culture. From tikanga and marae protocols to the whānau home, cultural events and personal growth. You’ll learn with confidence, inclusion, and purpose.

  • Kura Tikanga introduces the core concepts of Māori customs and values, helping individuals and organisations confidently integrate tikanga Māori into everyday life and work.

  • Kura Haumanu is a full-day workshop that empowers individuals, whānau, and organisations to revitalise te reo Māori through practical planning, dialect exploration, and real-life case studies.

  • Kura Tahito is an intensive wānanga to deepen your knowledge of whaikōrero, karanga, kawa, and tikanga, guided by esteemed experts in Māori oratory and protocol.

  • Kura Kāinga is a full-day workshop for those who help keep the marae running – from governance and management to essential behind-the-scenes roles.

  • Kura Tātai is a one-day workshop for anyone ready to explore and document their whakapapa, offering practical tools to access records, engage with kaumātua, and organise your findings.
